KPL's Monthly Ramblings |
First of all, BIG thanks to "Olive Couture" in downtown Chico. They are an awesome clothing store that had a fashion show, and chose to use it as a fundraiser for the studio! With 10% of their proceeds going to the studio, they were able to present us with a check for $255! In our world that's alot of money! (Almost 3 PG&E bills!)April 2008We had the privilege of starting a recording project for the Champion Christian School Gospel Choir. They sound AMAZING and I'm looking forward to the finished product. We are also excited to welcome the return of Sacramento Worship Leader, Mary Alviso. She recorded with us 4 years ago, and is coming back to start her next project. They are dear friends, and a joy to work with.
May 17th is our first festival of the season, Stand & Be Counted in Vacaville! For the third year we will be sponsoring/producing the Indie Artist Alternative Stage. It's always exciting to see new & up and coming bands each year! Two of our artists, Philip Bardowell and My Second Chance will be appearing on Main Stage, while Fading Darkness and Malachi will make their SABC debut on the Alternative Stage.
After that, the following week we leave for Spirit West Coast/Del Mar (San Diego), where we will be producing the "Good News Stage", showcasing artists from the San Diego area. We are excited that our own Haley Montgomery will be making her SWC debut there! Right after that, we will be leaving for Haley's first tour for 2 weeks! More on that next month!
That's it for now...As always, thanks for your continued support!
April was a month of serving other ministries! First off, we had the privilege of producing another Operation Worship concert event at Nellis Air Force Base by Las Vegas, NV. Over 3,000 servicemen and their families attended and were treated to the comedy of Bob Smiley, and the music of Todd Agnew and Mercy Me. We made lots of new friends and had the opportunity to see allot of cool things! We even got to visit The Thunderbirds Museum and go into their hangar and see the planes up close!January 2008Later in the month we invited to judge the 2nd annual American Christian Talent Showcase competition put on by Vince McAllister, founder of Stand & Be Counted Christian Music Festival in Vacaville. It was a joy to see all the amazingly talented artists performing, and competing to appear on stage at a number of major Christian Music Festivals in California.
***Just a Reminder***...
We DESPARATELY need somebody skilled in grant writing. Preliminary research over the last 3 years indicates that we could easily qualify for non-profit grant funding. You do not need to know how - we have all the resources available, including a comprehensive DVD-based training program on applying for grants for "faith-based" organizations.
While we can't afford to "hire" someone, we are willing to pay him or her on a "contingency basis. Getting REAL funding for this ministry would make the difference between growing and being able to do more versus just surviving! If you know anyone PLEASE call me at 530/893-4901.
January started the year off with a bang! Lot's of exciting news. First of all, we had a total of 12 sessions during the month. We are pleased to report that Trent Smith, an AMAZING Worship Pastor and multi-talented musician has selected us to record his all violin full length CD. Initial sessions are proving that this CD is one you will definitely want to add to your collection. It was also exciting to see the return of Brittany Fortune, who was one of my very first young ladies to record over 6 yrs. ago at the tender age of 16, and was my first young lady of the group to get married! Now at age 22, she has returned to music and is working on her new project. Sometimes I feel like a father watching his "kids" grow up!2007 - End of YearWe also were given the opportunity to work with "The California School Project"; ,an organization working with high school Christian clubs to bring outreach programs to their schools. Our first event was at Clayton Valley High School in Concord, CA. In spite of the horrendous weather, the event was a HUGE success with tons of kids participating. Our guest rap group, "Spitshine" was a big hit with the kids, and they ended up GIVING away over 50 CD's to the kids. We look forward to a continued partnership with this organization and have plans for a "tour" of high schools in the LA area!
Lastly, exciting news from the Operation Worship front lines! We have been asked to do an event at Nellis AFB on April 11th, and there are rumors of rides with The Thunderbirds! But even more exciting is that we've received word from the Pentagon that we have a "green light" for our Iraq/Afghanistan tour this fall! More to come...
What a CRAZY year 2007 was!December 2007:To begin with, we conducted 139 sessions in the studio! That's a 25% increase from 2006. This is in ADDITION to 29 youth outreach events & concerts. We also, had the privilege of doing 4 concerts within the juvenile detention system. As part of the Operation Worship Team, we assisted with the production of 3 military base concerts. We look forward to visiting many more bases this year!
Another major accomplishment for 2007 was FINALLY finishing the construction of the studio. While we still have some supplemental lighting to install, and acoustic treatment, it's done! Of course, now that we're done, with the generous help of a couple "contractor-dads", we are now going to create a waiting/observation area by adding a wall. Another dad who is a finish carpenter has offered to build us a beautiful new "professional" work counter in our control room for all the recording gear. We can finally get rid of our Costco table! Yay!
Once again, thanks to everyone for their continued faithfulness in supporting us! It's hard to believe that with our 6th anniversary coming up soon, we've now worked with over 400 artists from 56 cities and 10 states! (If you are curious where they all came from, go to the web site, look under the artist section and select "search by city"). Without your continued support, we couldn't exist to provide the unique service that we do.
Speaking of web site, since it's launch in 2002 would you believe it has had almost 45,500 visits? Have a Blessed New Year!
First of all, I wanted to thank all the members of the "Andrew Jackson Club" who have faithfully supported us each month! Your faithfulness is what has enabled us to continue providing the services we bring to the youth we serve! For those of you receiving this that are not members of our AJ Club, well...it's never too late to join! Just let us know on the attached card, and include your address and we'll sign you up!October 2007:As the year draws to a close, and tax season right around the corner, I want to take the opportunity to remind everyone that as a Non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, your contributions are tax deductible. Subsequently, when the year closes, you will receive a giving statement for your records.
We humbly ask if you would please consider making a year-end "Christmas Gift" to us. The first quarter looks pretty bleak financially for us already and it would be nice to be able to start the new year off on a solid footing!
The ministry has grown considerably over the last yea. With your help, in 2008 will grow even more - and touch many more aspiring young musicians!
Thank you again for all your support this past year. It's been a pleasure and a privilege to serve your kids, and many others!
Have a blessed Christmas!
We finished off the month of September with our second Operation Worship event at Ft. Lewis, WA. It was great to be back there again, and as always we had an awesome time there hanging out with the troops! We brought them some great music from Jason Squires, and one of my favorites Big Daddy Weave. Comedian Gary King also made the trip to MC and make people laugh. He did a great job at both! Be sure to visit the Operation Worship web site at www.operationworship.com and see what an awesome ministry this is!September 2007:Next, we started off the month of October with the final festival of the season, Rock Of Ages in Calistoga, CA. We had the privilege of producing the "Alternative Stage" located at the skate park they created. Lots of kids, lots of good music!
Later in the month we made our monthly visit to Glenn County Juvenile Facility. We took Minister RMB in to provide music and an encouraging message to the kids. It was great to see all the kids surrounding him at the end asking lots of questions! I think the saddest thing I saw this trip was the 17 yr. old young man who shared with us he had already fathered 2 kids! We spent alot of time talking to him and encouraging him. Hopefully he'll get things turned around.
In spite of all that, we still managed to stay busy in the studio with 19 sessions, and we are looking forward to a band flying in from Sierra Vista, AZ the first week of November to spend some time with us
That's it for now. As always, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us!...kpl
Thanks to our faithful friends at Chico Drywall, who has generously provided all our sheetrock, insulation, and arranged for texturing. And NOW they recently donated the drop ceiling we so desperately needed! They have been incredibly generous to us, and we are truly grateful.Additionally, another of our awesome friends Artic Aire, who 2 yrs ago DONATED a commercial heating system, recently DONATED air conditioning!!! No more sweltering 90+ degree sessions! The value of their generosity to us is unbelievable!
This month I wanted to share a little about my visit to the Pentagon for the 9-11 Memorial Service. It was AMAZING, the Newsboys rocked the packed auditorium, and the speaker, retired LTC. Brian Birdwell, who survived being 25 yards from the impact point, was truly inspirational.
I've included a few pictures I wanted to share. They are me at the "photo op" podium;

the stained glass memorial in the 9-11 Memorial Chapel;

a display of the people who died at the impact point;

and finally, a picture of the memorial plaque for Herbert Homer

who's story I want to share.August 2007:Herbert was a civilian Pentagon employee. His office was located at the point of impact where the PLANE hit the Pentagon. However, Herbert wasn't in his office that day when the plane struck. Instead, he was on Flight 175 which struck the World Trader Center. I thought his little known story was worth sharing.
That's it for now. As always, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us!...kpl
August was a busy month for us! The first weekend was Spirit West Coast, then the 3rd weekend we traveled to Winnemucca, NV to put on a big city-wide youth outreach event at the convention center. The next weekend we had the privilege of hosting Family Force Five, at a youth conference in Paradise, CA. These guys are one of the hottest alternative bands out there right now.July 2007:The very next day, we put on an AWESOME youth outreach event in the tiny town of Loma Rica, CA. Over two dozen kids accepted Jesus! The next morning, we were back in Paradise again to put on a big worship service for all the kids as a finale to their youth week. The last weekend of the month, (Labor Day Weekend), we will be at Joshua Fest where we will be hosting a stage for Indie artists!
Even in the midst of all this, we still were able to conduct 8 recording sessions, including a lady that traveled all the way from Salt Lake City! We also had the privilege of doing a concert at the Glen County Juvenile Detention Facility.
September is going to be a great month as well - especially with the 9-11 Memorial service at The Pentagon with the Newsboys. That's it for now. As always, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us!...kpl
July started out on a somber note as we were invited to help with the "Let Us Remember Event" in Susanville the weekend after the 4th. The purpose of this event was to recognize and honor all veterans that have served their country in past and present wars. The highlight of the event was the presence of the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. This is a 4/5 scale version of the one in Washington DC and is just amazing to see! Additionally, there was a field planted with small American flags that represented the casualties sustained so far in the Iraqi war. Sadly, this display required "updating" each day. There were many other displays and various programs and overall, it was just an incredible weekend.June 2007:Following that event, we went out on a short 2-week tour with Portland band, "Creswell". Then, back into the studio with two of our hottest young bands..."Jet Fuel Only", and "Chasing Truth" from Gilroy. We are excited about the things that are happening for these two groups!
Lastly, I mentioned in the last newsletter about Operation Worship and the great work they are doing on our military bases. In September we will be traveling to Washington DC for a 9-11 memorial service being held at the Pentagon, featuring The Newsboys. Unfortunately, for this event, the Army has no budget and we need to "pay our own way".
To be able to represent Operation Worship and participate in this incredible event, I need to raise $400 for air fare and expenses to the event. Would you please consider "giving a little extra" this month to get me there?
That's it for now. As always, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us!...kpl
May 2007:June was a BUSY month with sessions and concerts squeezed between four Sober Graduation parties, and an Operation Worship Trip to Ft. Hood, TX.
We want to welcome the "Chicisi Drummers" to our family! This is a group of Native American teens that have been brought together by an elder from Indian Valley Health Services, to teach them their cultures music and drumming traditions as an alternative to less desirable activities. We have offered them the sanctuary of the studio as a place to meet, and practice. We look forward to recording their music soon!
Speaking of Operation Worship, it was an AWESOME trip to Ft. Hood to spend time with the Chaplains & soldiers there. Ft. Hood is the largest military installation in the world and believe me...it is HUGE! The highlight of the trip was getting the privilege of going into the tank and assault vehicle simulators. Talk about your hi-tech video game! But the low point of the trip was talking to the Installation Chaplain (the top guy over 100 base chaplains), and hearing about how he had to perform 13 "death notifications" last week. Ft. Hood represents 3 of the 5 battalions deployed in Iraq, and as a result, they suffer the greatest number of casualties. It's a sobering thought.
Take a moment some time and visit www.operationworship.com and see what this awesome ministry is all about!
That's it for now. As always, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us!...kpl
May was a month of touring and festivals! In between six sessions, we went on tour with Benjamin May 10-20th. Then we headed to Vacaville to produce the Alternative Stage at Stand & Be Counted. After that, we joined the Operation Worship Team in Del-Mar, (San Diego area) for Spirit West Coast. Many know our fearless leader Jeff Hilliard as the "Monkey Commando" - the guy that shoots stuffed monkeys from the stage! Over the course of the weekend he shot over 600 monkeys to the festival attendees!April 2007:Speaking of Operation Worship, during that weekend, we were informed by our liaison at The Pentagon that they are sending us to Iraq & Afghanistan during January '08. What amazing news for the ministry! There also may be something happening in Kuwait this August. We'll see! In June we will be visiting the troops at Ft. Hood, TX. This is one of the largest Army bases in the world. We are really looking forward to it!
April was a crazy month with 19 sessions! Additionally, we participated in a benefit event in Rocklin for a police officer that was killed in the line of duty. Our own, "Daniel Travers Band" donated their time to provide music for the event. Over 1,000 people attended. We had the privilege once again of working with Danielle Sayre, and her band, who came all the way from Sierra Vista, AZ! She is an AMAZING worship leader, and was once invited to lead worship at an Army Chaplains Conference in Germany. This was her 3rd trip here & we had a great time recording 11 new songs for her worship CD. Be sure to get a copy when it releases!March 2007:Coming up next month, the tour & festival season begins as we depart with Benjamin and the S.K.R.I.P.T. Tour May 10th, winding up with Todd Agnew at Stand & Be Counted in Vacaville the 19th., with our next stop Spirit West Coast-Del Mar. Meanwhile, rapper Minister RMB will be heading over to the Glen County Juvenile Hall for our monthly ministry there. Last time he was there over 10 kids accepted Christ! That's it for now. As always, thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us!...kpl
February was a fairly slow month since we are still moving back into the studio and trying to get things organized. Outside of the studio we stayed fairly busy. We had the privilege of assisting with the David Crowder concert in Modesto. It was a packed house & as always David put on an AMAZING show! This was about the 6th time I've worked with David & his band, and he never ceases to impress me with his sincerity and total "transparency". What you see is what you get!February 2007:We also had the chance to take a couple of our favorite bands out, My Second Chance & Chasing Truth to do a mini-tour! We had a great time and the crowds were awesome! Also, we got to support a couple of benefit events by providing bands & sound equipment; "The Lost Children", and "30-hr. Famine". Both events were hugely successful in raising consciousness about two very serious issues in our world.
We are having a really tough time in March financially, and are asking everyone to consider a financial "gift" to the ministry. We greatly appreciate the generosity many of you have already shown to us, and hope you can "bless" us a bit extra this month. But more than anything, we ask you to keep this ministry in your prayers, that we may find financial stability. For us to break even each month, we need to increase our monthly revenues by $1,000! If you know anyone who you think might be interested in supporting us either monthly, or a one time gift, be sure to let them know that we are a 501 c-3 Non-Profit organization, and their gifts are tax deductible!
Once again...thank you for your faithfulness in supporting this ministry...kpl
January was a pretty slow month since the band My Second Chance had the studio booked pretty much the entire month working on their 3rd CD. But we were able to "sneak in" one of our favorites, "Blameless Child" from Redding to record their second CD!January 2007:Other than that, not much to report. BIG February coming up with the My Second Chance Tour, and a visit to Ft. Polk, LA for Operation Worship.
Once again...thank you for your faithfulness in supporting this ministry. You may be surprised to know that YOUR one contribution for the month may be the one that makes it possible for us to pay rent for the month. We truly DO appreciate you!..kpl
Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and great New Year! 2006 was such a major turning point in the studio, and 2007 already looks to be pretty amazing. The best part is that after 2 1/2 years, the studio is finally complete. Many awesome individuals and businesses stepped up & made it possible to get things completed once and for all. What a great Christmas present!December 2006:So...the breakdown on 2006:
- Recording Sessions - 104
- Outreach Events - 76
- Tours - 7
- Juvenile Hall Outreach - 5
- Festivals - 5
If we hadn't been closed alot in 4th. quarter for construction we probably would have had alot more sessions. Nonetheless, we stayed pretty busy!
In regards to giving, thanks to your generosity we kept our head above water most of the year, although it seems that often we were treading pretty vigorously sometimes. Our AJ contributions for 2006 totaled $6,445, which averages out to $532 per month. Our monthly need averages around $1,300-1,500/mo. so we struggle alot. But thanks to a number of "friends" and their generosity, we stayed alive. Nonetheless, we need to recruit more members into the club! Any suggestions are appreciated!
Per the IRS requirements, I will be mailing your year-end giving statements by Jan. 31st. Thank you again for your generous support, and I hope you will continue to support us into 2007!
Thanks to all of you that made it to our "special day". The wedding was beautiful & the reception was a blast. It was so great to see so many of you there! And in spite of 3 days of non-stop rain, the honeymoon was pretty awesome as well!November 2006:Studio Construction Update...Final inspection is Monday, 12/4. Hopefully we pass the 1st time! I am SO ready to be done with construction after 2 1/2 long years. All we need now are a couple doors & carpet - and eventually we will drop our ceiling, but it will suffice for now. The great news is that once we get the doors in, we already have a generous donor that is going to pay for all the flooring! What a HUGE blessing!
Right after I returned from the honeymoon, I went to Ft. Lewis, WA, for the next stop on the Operation Worship Tour. What an awesome experience! Met alot of great people & heard some amazing stories. Sadly, during our visit, there were memorial services every day for fallen soldiers from the base. Really makes you appreciate the ultimate sacrifice these soldiers make for our country. Be sure to check the Operation Worship website periodically for video from the trip. www.operationworship.com.
Last month I told you about the band that was interviewed by People Magazine. Well, it came out, (Dec. 11th edition - Prince William on the cover), and if you check it out you will see our banner in the background in one of the photos. Pretty cool! The band has already been contacted by Rachel Ray & Inside Edition so more excitement to come! Hopefully we will done with the CD by then. That's it for now. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Well...by the time you get this, I will have gotten married Sat., Nov. 4th. I'm hoping you were able to attend! It's hard to believe the day finally arrived. Quick honeymoon then back to life in the fast lane!October 2006:First of all...Studio Construction Update. The electrical is complete, all the glass is in and we are FINALLY ready for final inspection. Now, cross your fingers & hope we covered all our bases!
Two days after returning from our honeymoon, I will be heading to Ft. Lewis, WA, for the next stop on the Operation Worship Tour, featuring Joy Williams, The Afters and Bob Smiley. Since this is the home base for the new Stryker Urban Assault Vehicle currently deployed in Iraq, I'm hoping for a ride, and maybe a chance to shoot its guns! Whoo Hoo! If you haven't been to the web site, be sure to do so! www.operationworship.com.
Some amazing news!!!...A band that I work with has a drummer that uses music as therapy for his Aspargers Syndrome, a type of Autism. A writer and crew of 4 from People Magazine came to a concert 10/27 to observe & interview the band for a human-interest story. Due to my involvement with the band they interviewed me as well, and showed much interest in the ministry! Even though its all about the band, I can't help but feel anxious about the possibility of such an amazing opportunity to be featured! We'll see.
That's it for now. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Studio Construction Update!!! On Sept. 23rd, we had a major construction day. Alot was accomplished & we even had fun doing it! BIG thanks to everyone that participated, not just for their awesome construction assistance, but also for their generous financial contribution to the project this weekend. See the website for a list of all the incredible contributions we have received to help get us completed!September 2006:The best is yet to come!!! Sept. 29th, Frank from Chico Insulation is donating his time to complete all the insulation installation. Then the next day, Jimmy and his team from Feather River Drywall come in to donate their expertise in completing the sheetrock installation.
Now...the best news yet - I was contacted by Terry from Hardesty & Sons., (another drywall company), and they have offered to complete ALL THE TAPING & TEXTURING!!!! Whoo Hoo! They are going to start on it Tuesday, Oct. 3rd., & will be done in a week! This means conceivably we could be "finaled" before the end of October! All we need to do is complete the installation of the lighting, doors, & windows & we'll be set!
Be sure to check the website for pics & updates to see what it's looking like so far! (www.goodshepherdstudio.org)
That's it for now. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Well, after Spirit West Coast the first weekend of the month, the rest of the month calmed down a bit. It was great to be in Monterey again, (SWC) & re-unite with old friends, as well as make a few new ones!August 2006:Had an awesome event that we had the privilege of producing their first year. "BattleCry Amador", held at Amador County Fairgrounds was a youth outreach event that attracted close to 500 youth from around the area! The show featured Falling UP, as well as our own "Benjamin". The show was a huge success, and they look to grow even bigger & better next year!
Coming up Labor Day weekend...Joshua Fest! As I am writing this I am finishing up the last details for the event before we head out to Quincy tomorrow morning at "OMG-'o clock". We will be producing 2 of the 4 stages, one of which is "The Good Shepherd's Studio Stage". We are very excited & privileged to have our own stage at such a premier event as JF! As a result, many artists from the studio will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of thousands of people! Whoo Hoo!
Lastly, we are FINALLY going to put up the rest of the insulation & sheetrock of the new studio on Sept. 23rd. We are making a leap of faith because the materials even GREATLY discounted are going to cost $1,100. But we have faith that we can raise the money by then. We have many awesome people coming to help, from as far away as Gilroy! If you'd like to come & help that day be sure to let me know.
But more importantly, if you are in a position to "spare a little extra" this month to help with the materials, we would be deeply grateful!
That's it for now. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
July was a very eventful month both in ministry and personally. After finishing up with the Creswell tour, we connected with My Second Chance for their summer tour. We will be with them on and off all the way to Spirit West Coast where they will be performing for the second year. This is a great honor for them and definitely brings great exposure to this ministry!July 2006:Additionally, we will have a number of our artists in competition at the American Christian Music Showcase competition at SWC. Good luck goes out to Blameless Child, Chasing Truth, and Nella Schnase. I believe all are "contenders" for winning!
Speaking of Blameless Child, they made a return appearance to the Willows Juvenile Detention Facility this month. It was bittersweet because while they got to see some faces they met before, the fact that those kids were still there was sad. Nonetheless, it was a great experience and it seems that B.C. has really made a connection there! These are kids with a true heart for ministry!
Oh yeah, I'm excited to announce that I got engaged this month to the awesome-ist lady in the whole wide world! Be sure to mark you calendar for Nov. 4th, 11am at East Avenue Community Church in Chico, and watch your mail for an "official" invite!
Lastly, to help save postage we have "identified" those that give to the ministry via electronic payment, and do not need a return envelope. If your mailing label has a "smiley face" on it, that designates you as an electronic payer.
That's it for now. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
June was our month of AWESOME new talent! Starting off with 16 yr. old Barrett from Susanville, then a week later the "young-un's" of "Chasing Truth" from Gilroy. These kids range in age from 10-14, but don't be fooled by their tender young ages...These kids ROCK!!! Be sure to go to the web site and check them out! Their 10 yr. old lead guitarist can put to shame many twice his age.June 2006:One of our favorites, Catherine Vietti recorded an incredible Christmas Cantata that is being considered for production by one of the leading producers in Nashville - David Grow, (who also happens to be her son).
Our one and only Country Artist, Dan Travers had a very successful 4 day run at Gold Country Casino. Then we were off on tour with Creswell & Innate from Oregon for the next couple weeks. We've been out with them before and it's always a fun (and interesting) experience.
July is going to be busy with another tour, Spirit West Coast, and a CD release party for our craaazy Brazilian pianist, Handerson Pontel.
That's it for now. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
May was a CRAAAZY month of excitement as the festival/tour season got kicked off! We spent the first week on tour with Todd Agnew & Big Daddy Weave, ending up in Coos Bay, Oregon before having to leave the tour to help produce the Golden State Music Festival at Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Marysville May 5th & 6th. What an awesome event with Audio Adrenaline headlining the show.May 2006:Week 2 we had the privilege of being interviewed by BCTV at Butte Community College. (they say the camera adds five pounds - I must have had 20 cameras on me!). Then that weekend, it was time for the last WAR Rally of the season at Pastor Abe's church in Gridley. There were bounce houses, a dunk tank, bbq, and lots of kids! Our hottest new group Blameless Child played as well as My Second Chance. It was hot but fun!
The following weekend it was back to the Willows Juvenile Detention Facility for our monthly outreach event. Blameless Child came for this one and they were a hit! We plan on taking them back again real soon!
2 more outreach events that weekend - the Methodist District Rally Sunday in Yuba City, and another on Monday in Clovis. THEN...Off to Spirit West Coast-Del Mar in San Diego for 5 days. It was great to meet up with old friends, and make many more new friends! So much excitement at a festival that size and so many fires to put out! (I felt like Smokey The Bear sometimes). We made it back just long enough to rest a couple days before heading down to Vacaville for the Stand & Be Counted Festival. Home for a few days now & time to spend some quality time in the studio working with all the new talent that has joined us! THAT'S my favorite part of all.
Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
April was a CRAAAAAZY month! The first weekend of the month we hosted a concert for Tooth & Nail recording artists "Showbread". Later that week, 13 yr. old Alyssa Nunelly & her father traveled all the way from Missoula, Montana to record her 1st CD! We had an awesome time together! For the majority of the month after that we had the privilege of managing the Activate Tour for BEC Records artist, "Benjamin". We visited churches throughout northern California, Oregon, Nevada and Utah. Hopefully we touched alot of people.April 2006:After that tour, we were back in the studio for a week before joining up with the "In The Name Of Jesus" tour with Todd Agnew & Big Daddy Weave. What an incredible opportunity for the ministry to be a part of something so big. Along the way, I had the opportunity to share the ministry with alot of pastors & subsequently hope to have opportunities to return and minister to their youth through one of our tours this summer.
Previously I believed that recording adult bands would be the answer to supporting the ministry financially. But it is becoming evident that utilizing my gifts, (and 25 yrs. experience) of process and logistics management in the realm of tour management and concert production is a better and more lucrative way of bringing income into the ministry. I am grateful to the studio assistance that I am receiving enabling the ministry to continue full steam while I am on the road bringing awareness and financial support to the ministry.
That's it for now...As always, thanks again for your support! And don't forget, we now take Visa/MasterCard to make it easier for those who prefer to contribute that way. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Finally got to spend some time off the road. Had the privilege of helping produce the Third Day/David Crowder concert in Roseville! It was my 2nd time with Third Day & 3rd time with Crowder. Always a pleasure & privilege working with those guys! They are truly humble servants of God.February 2006:Also had the opportunity to take "My Second Chance" into the Willows Juvenile Detention Facility. Usually we do concerts out in the courtyard, but due to bad weather, we did it inside. With all the concrete walls & floors, it was LOUD!!! But it was great! During the show it was mentioned that it was the bass players, (Cash) birthday. At the end of the show, one of the young men came up to Cash & gave him his bible telling him that "he didn't want Cash to not get a present on his birthday!". It was very touching.
During the month we were contacted by Tooth & Nail recording artists "The Fold", (referred to me by Aaron from Joshua Fest), needing to fill some empty dates in their tour schedule. Long story short, we had the privilege of putting together a 1-week northern California "mini-tour" for them, and then went out and provided production & tour management for them. It was a great opportunity for the ministry, and based on their level of satisfaction, hopefully will lead to more opportunities like this in the future!
That's it for now...As always, thanks again for your support! And don't forget, we now take Visa/MasterCard to make it easier for those who prefer to contribute that way. Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
January was a fairly slow month, with only 13 recording sessions in the studio. However, we did do 5 Youth Outreach concerts, and had the privilege of managing the Natalie Grant concert at Adventure Church in Rocklin.January 2006:We are taking advantage of the slow time to get the studio prepared for what we hope to be the final leg of our construction project. Huge thanks goes out to Pastor, (and electrical contractor), Mark Dornbusch from Redding who has been instrumental in getting our once stagnant project "jumpstarted" again. We hope to have our facility mostly finished before we celebrate our 2nd year here in June!
As it is every month, it's always a race to the finish line at the end of the month to see if we will be able to pay rent - but then God always comes through for us. But if you know anyone you think might be interested in supporting this ministry, please let me know!
That's it for now...Thanks again for your support during 2005! Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Happy New Year!!! Now that it's 2006 it's time to look back at 2005 and look at all that we did. Thanks to your continued support of this ministry we served many churched and un-churched, young & old through out the year...directly in the studio, or out at an outreach event. As we continue to make new friends, and open new doors, we look forward to 2006 to be even MORE fruitful than 2005. Here's the breakdown:November 2005:Studio Sessions: We had 261 recording sessions in the studio. Our reach expanded to include a Worship Pastor couple from Oklahoma, and a Worship Leader from Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.
Outreach: We served churches & youth groups in 78 outreach events! We were privileged to enter into Juvenile Hall ministry this year by providing outreach within the confines of a detention facility in Willows, CA. We also participated in over a dozen outreach concerts to a juvenile group home in Stockton, CA.
Event Production: We produced, or co-produced 25 outreach events. By partnering with Celebration Concerts & Sonrise Productions, we were not only able to provide revenue generating opportunities for the ministry, but we had the privilege to provide concert management & production assistance to events such as Spirit West Coast, Joshua Fest, Rock The Park, Fish Fest, Stand & Be Counted, and Light The Fire.
Concert Tours: We assisted with major & minor concert tours 21 days. We had the awesome opportunity to manage/co-manage segments of the tours of Jeremy Camp, Bethany Dillon, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Mercy Me
That's it for now...Thanks again for your support during 2005! Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Lots going on in November!...Jim Farmer's CD release party was a huge success. The Creswell Tour was awesome as well, although we had a little trouble getting it off the ground. The first day I was to meet up with them we both had vehicle break downs the same day! Then to make matters worse, after leaving my van in Weed, CA & loading up with them to come to Chico, we had a rear tire come completely off the van outside of Corning! Praise God we didn't wreck! We finally made it to town, got everything taken care of and the rest of the tour continued on without a hitch.October 2005:I am SOOO thankful to my "Angels Of Mercy" (and monthly supporters!) in Mt. Shasta, Bob & Sue Jodoin. They got me back on the road and generously contributed toward the repair bill. THANK YOU!!!
There is another AWESOME band, coming to Mathew's Cafe! SamoPraze, a 6-pc group from Sacramento, is bringing it's tight 3 part vocals and "Island-Flavored Worship" to Mathew's Cafe, Thursday Nite, Dec. 15th. Tickets are $5. With it's roots in their Samoan homeland, if you like the Katina's...You'll LOVE SamoPraze! These guys have opened for Audio Adrenaline, The Katina's, Salvador, and many more! So come join us for coffee & a great nite of rock'n R&B Worship Music...Samoan-Style!
Lastly, as we continue to struggle to survive financially, please consider making a year-end "gift" to the ministry, as well encouraging anyone else you know that might need a good year end tax write-off!
That's it for now...Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
October was another hectic month!...seems like the days are just flying by with so much going on. We had the privilege to manage The Effect Radio Stage at the new Spirit West Coast Festival in Chino called "Rock The Park". This is a more alternative, Christian hard rock festival featuring groups such as POD and PAX 217. There were a total of 35 bands that played.September 2005:Our outreach event at the juvenile hall in Willows was that same weekend and as usual, God moved hugely in this place. 8 kids came forward at the end. We will be on hiatus there November & December but will return in January to keep the momentum going!
We also had the privilege of working on the Jeremy Camp/Bethany Dillon Tour during October, and are looking forward to the Stephen Curtis Chapman/Mercy Me Tour in December! God is opening more, and bigger doors for us in the realm of concert & tour production management, and it is not only an awesome opportunity to make connections in the "business", but generate income for the ministry as well.
Lot's going on in November!...Be sure to come check out the band Creswell at Mathew's Cafe on Thursday, Nov. 10th. at 7pm. Tickets are $5. They are a band that appeals to all ages and the have a really rockin worship set at the end of their concert!
September was a month for reunions! Danielle Sayre, an awesome worship leader from Ft. Huachuca, AZ came into the studio to FINALLY finish her CD, and Brian Shepard, my former Worship Pastor from Concord, now living in Sapulpa, OK came out to record his CD. Brian is the guy I commonly refer to as "The Shepherd of the Good Shepherd Studio", 'cuz he's the guy that inspired me to do this! Of course THE Good Shepherd above made it all possible! Brian is an incredible song writer, and his music is truly anointed!
Our outreach event at the juvenile hall in Willows was again, a huge success! 11 kids came forward at the end. God is really moving in this sad place. Continue to pray for our success in getting thru the doors at other facilities. We also made new friends at the Open Gate Christian Fellowship Church in Willows, and they are going to be providing financial support for this ministry! Praise God & BIG thanks to the church and Mark Sawyer!
Another awesome musician, James Farmer is getting ready to release his new CD. It's wonderful, original worship music with a "60's edge" to it. His CD release party will be at Mathews Cafe, Thursday, Nov. 3rd. Be sure to come check it out. Proceeds that night will go towards helping us keep the lights on.
Finally, thank you SOOOO much for your continued financial support. We really struggled to make ends meet this month, and the ensuing months don't look much better. As the end of the year nears, please consider a generous end of year contribution to help us remain stable so that we may focus on ministry, not survival.
That's it for now...Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
Praise God for His blessings!!! Thanks to the incredible generosity of Artic Aire in Chico, we finally have a heating/ventilation system that was necessary before the county would approve our plans to complete construction! This has been a MAJOR hurdle in completing the studio, and hopefully now we can move forward toward completion before the end of the year. Please take a moment and call Arctic Aire at 895-3330 and THANK them for their gift! And be sure to visit the web site for some great pics of the install.August 2005:Our second outreach event at the juvenile hall in Willows was a huge success! This time, when the invitation was given, out of 23 attendees, ALL 23 stepped forward. Praise God! We are actively pursuing other juvenile hall opportunities. Pray for continued success!
Other praises...the Youth For Christ outreach event in Hayfork, CA. was hugely successful, with many non-Christians attending, and lots of awesome fellowship. The weekly series of park outreach events with Calvary Chapel in Paradise, was equally successful.
Labor Day weekend we were at Joshua Fest in Quincy where we were hired to manage the main stage. It was great being reunited with our friends Kutless, Barlow Girl, Hawk Nelson, and others we have worked with in the past! We may have the privilege of doing it again at the new Celebration Concerts event in So. Calif called "Rock The Park" in October! What a great opportunity for the ministry!
That's it for now...Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
July 2005:July was awesome!...The Comedy nite was a huge success, not in attendance but in spirit. Lot's of people were enthusiastic about Christian comedy coming to Chico, and I think we'll do this again next year! Bob Smiley has already agreed to come on board!
Spirit West Coast was great. Met alot of new friends, got to see some old friends, and of course the music was great as always! On Sunday, JC Muzk Productions, produced a Christian music event at The Presidio-Ft. Ord Army Base in Monterey. We had Caedmon's Call, Barlow Girl & Bethany Dillon. Our own Grace Angela & Carrie Ollenberger led worship that morning in the Sunday Chapel service.
We finally found a van to replace our current vehicle with the dead transmission. It's going to be tight financially, but it's a great opportunity that we can't afford to pass up. Please consider an extra "gift" this month to help offset the cost of this badly needed resource.
Our first outreach event into the juvenile hall in Willows was a huge success! At the end, when the invitation was given, 6 young men out of 25 stepped forward. Praise God! We will be doing this again Aug. 27th. Pray for continued success!
Additionally, in August, we will be co-hosting with Youth For Christ, a huge (7 bands) outreach event in the depressed community of Hayfork, CA. We hope to bring a bright light into the darkness of a drug & gang infested mountain community! Also, we begin a weekly series of park outreach events with Calvary Chapel in Paradise, every Sunday nite at Terry Ashe Park in Paradise. That's it for now... Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
June 2005:July looks to be another busy month! Two festivals, a CD release party, working with Number One Gun, and a Superstar Concert!
The best news so far is that we now have someone dedicated to finding grant money for the studio. Thanks to Pam at The Center For Non-Profit Resources in Redding, we will be diligently looking for operating capitol for the ministry, and hopefully hire some badly needed help!
Most importantly, on Thursday, July 21st, there will be a benefit event for the studio. Christian comedians, Ron McGeeHee & Keri Pomerolli have offered to come up from the LA area & do a benefit concert for the ministry FREE!!! Both are among the hottest of Christian comedians in the country right now, and both are performers at Spirit West Coast. Kerri has appeared on Jay Leno over 25 times! Please come out that nite and show your support!
"Comedy For The Cause": A Comedy Nite to benefit the ministry of The Good Shepherd's Studio - Thursday Nite, July 21st. May kicked off the summer concert/festival season with the annual community outreach event at Anderson River Park in Anderson May 21st, and then Spirit West Coast-Del Mar (San Diego) over Memorial Day Weekend. After returning from that, we head to Vacaville June 4th where we've been hired to stage manage for the "Stand & Be Counted Tour" featuring Audio Adrenaline, Tree63, Katinas & More!. Then the next day we move to Napa for the "Light The Fire Tour" featuring Skillet & Kutless!May 2005:We feel extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to work with such awesome mainstream Christian artists. It's also a great opportunity for our young studio interns to get the opportunity to see "behind the scenes" of the Christian Music world.
In June we have our first outreach concert inside the Willows Youth Correctional Facility June 18th. We are working on obtaining clearance at other facilities as well. Pray that we are successful in breaking down the barriers along the way.
We already have 2 concerts scheduled in June, the Effect Radio "Save The Lost Tour", June 8th, and then our first "SuperStars" concert in Chico, Sunday, June 12th. (info enclosed), as well as 18 studio sessions.
That's it for now!...Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
April was a great month!...FishFest was a blast! One of the coolest things we saw was all the tour buses of the artists lined up side by side. Would you believe Michael W. Smith has TWO matching tour buses? One for him, one for his road crew. Pretty awesome I must say. Of course the best part of the month was being able to take the "GSS Superstars" to Mt. Shasta for 2 days to minister at The Coffee Connection. As always, God made his presence known through the kids, and we made lots of new friends.Last month I told you about the ministry we have been doing with kids from a juvenile detention facility in Stockton. Well, recently we were contacted by the Chaplain of Glen County's Juvenile facility about doing ministry there. God is opening a BIG door, and we have an awesome "Juvie Ministry Team" now, so the "harvest is ripe for picking"!
We already have 9 concerts scheduled in May, as well as 34 studio sessions AND Spirit West Coast-Del Mar (San Diego) at the end of the month, so May will be a busy one for the ministry!
That's it for now!...Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
April 2005:
We are back from the Out Of Mouth Tour and slowly recovering. The highlight of the trip was the concert in Stockton where 4 kids from a juvenile detention facility accepted Christ! That made all the trip worthwhile. We had an awesome opportunity for outreach the first week of April. In conjunction with the Christian Club on campus, we brought music to the quad area on the Butte Community College Campus. We hope to make this a monthly event. We had a very positive response, so pray that campus administration remains open-minded!
We already have 10 concerts scheduled in April, as well as 29 studio sessions. We've also been given the privilege to be hired by Sonrise Productions to assist with production & stage management at FishFest at Arco Arena in Sacramento April 16th & 17th.
We had a tough month financially in March, but thanks to our dedicated & VERY much appreciated supporters we made it through! THANK YOU!!! Sadly though, the small van used to transport kids blew it's transmission after the tour, so pray that God provides us either find a generous mechanic or new vehicle. That's it for now!...Please continue to pray for us!...Thx, KPL
